Oil Leak Detection

Overview

This test program, conducted in partnership with C-FER Technologies, evaluated the Airdar technology’s ability to detect and locate controlled releases of liquid hydrocarbon products. Key performance metrics included detection time and location estimation accuracy. C-FER Technologies performed two blinded tests and three unblinded tests. This testing demonstrated that the Airdar technology can detect and locate small liquid hydrocarbon spills while effectively distinguishing between onsite and offsite sources. Key Results

Distinguished Onsite and Offsite Sources

Differentiated onsite and offsite emission sources, including plumes from an offsite oil waste facility

Detected Leak Plumes

Demonstrated the ability to detect and track plumes from liquid hydrocarbon leaks

Reliable in Extreme Cold

Smooth operation at ambient temperatures as low as -45°C

No False Alarms

Avoided triggering alarms in non-leak situations

Test No. Time to 1st VOC Indication Time to Yellow Alarm Time to Orange Alarm Time to Red Alarm
2 6 mins 54 mins 133 mins 215 mins
5 4 mins 33 mins 90 mins 155 mins

Times for first detection and alarms for blinded (location and timing unknown to Airdar) tests (Test 2 and 5)

Layout of the Airdar monitoring system and locations of hydrocarbon release locations during testing (C-FER Technologies)

VOC concentrations measured by the Airdar system during the testing period. Shaded areas indicate times were simulated leaks were conducted. Increases in VOC concentrations from emission sources were detectable by the system.
